Luka Gerzina is the Director of Gerzina A+C.

Having spent years working as an Architect with various leading practices in Sydney it dawned on him that Builder’s had an immense control on the real outcome of the project, through the day to day managing and directing of trades and finances of a project.

In order to retain a control of the design intent and ‘vision’ of the work, it became apparent that something greater than merely supervising a build as an architect would do.

So the suffering began, restarting a career in a new profession known as the Construction Industry. By working from the bottom up- from Labouring and digging trenches to Site Managing a major Sydney Sporting Facility. By learning first hand from listening to Italian welders, Korean gyprockers, Greek concreters and a multiude of different people about their craft and what is the best way to design things and put it together.

In most cases, what was drawn by the architect was considered ‘silly’, and there was a reasonable and more practical way to go about it. This is where the value in all the toil was gained.

Having both perspectives- the artist’s brush and the builder’s practicality should always provide a strong outcome, and that is the goal of this practice.
