Harry Seidler broke the mould of Australian Architecture. He is considered an icon for his Modernism methodology in Australia and the first architect to fully express the principles of the Bauhaus in Australia.
Harry Seidler was an Architect in a league all to his own. Re-buffing and refusing to be categorised his approach to design changed the path of Australia Architecture for the better. Seidler’s contribution to Australian Architecture continues to be recognised today and many of his designs maintained.
For me, Harry Seidler’s contribution to Australian Architecture goes far beyond the 180 award winning buildings he designed to include his role as the artist/designer advocate. I continue to be inspired by Seidler’s refusal to have his artist expression and designs compromised or stiffened. Seidler often tarred with being controversial in his design approach, advocated for what he called the “flux” of modern design. His passion for his work and designs has inspired many others and Australian Architecture is better for it.
